‘Time of their lives’ on the Great Wall

October 13, 2009

Two Worcestershire women trekked 70 kilometers of the Great Wall and had the “Time of their lives.”

Hiking or trekking the Great Wall of China for charity is an activity gaining in popularity. Wendy Burtenshaw and her daughter-in-law Jo Walker undertook the arduous journey to raise money for for the Eve Appeal into gynecological cancer research. So far, the pair has raised £7,500, almost to their goal of £8,000.

“We are thrilled that we were able to raise so much money for the Eve Appeal while having the time of our lives.”

It wasn’t easy. They prepped in the Malvern Hills before arriving in China. Starting their wall trek near Beijing at Gubeikou, the pair encountered much hilly terrain. The pair said they met many fabulous people who will become a permanent part of their lives.

Celebrity Olivia Newton-John led a group on a 23-day Great Wall Walk to raise money for cancer research.  Three Welsh women recently undertook a 100 km wall walk to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
